the taste of coleus

How does the story end? Does it ever end, or do we go into the eternal afterlife where time passes unmarked and we are steeped in situations we can never escape from? Why should a story end? Why can't it go on forever and ever? Why can't we always be happy?

Maybe we all wish for an end. Surely to end is right, to close our struggles on a page. Only there must be timely and untimely ends, and at the end maybe it won't matter at all except for those left behind.

Vicariously living and feeling through stories of other ends, when we can't see our own end.
