So, finally went to look up what the Supreme Court Practice Directions say on what advocates and solicitors have to wear to court:
(Section? Rule? Direction??) 17 of the Supreme Court Practice Directions: Court Dress
(1) The attire for male advocates and solicitors appearing in open Court will be the existing gown worn over an ordinary long-sleeved white shirt with a turn-down collar, a tie of a subdued or sober colour, a dark jacket, dark trousers and black or plain coloured shoes.
(2) The attire for female advocates and solicitors appearing in open Court will be the existing gown worn over a long-sleeved white blouse high to the neck, a dark jacket, a dark skirt or dark trousers and black or plain coloured shoes. Conspicuous jewellery or ornaments should not be worn.
(3) When appearing before the Judge or Registrar in Chambers, the attire for both men and women will be the same as for open Court, save that the gown need not be worn.
(4) The attire for Senior Counsel shall be as described in sub-paragraphs (1) to (4), save that, for hearings in open Court, they may, instead of the existing gown, wear a gown in the design of those worn by Queen’s Counsel of England and Wales and made of the following material:
(a) silk;
(b) silk and wool mix; or
(c) artificial silk.
So that settles it. Could probably wear a very dark blue suit, just that people may look a bit weirdly at you. And should be able to wear all white shoes. :) Ribbon in hair - depends on whether the judge thinks it's a conspicuous ornament.
And S.C.s wear a silk gown.

On Driving. As some of you will know, I've started driving again. It's pretty alright except for the moments when you're zoned out because you're sensorily overloaded and then you do things like pressing the accelerator, thinking it's the brake. Or moving off on second gear etc. Shall have to work on my braking also, and right turns (they keep making me do left turns instead of right).
Just did my driving simulator today, and it was a fake auto setup. And I think it is actually quite fun to drive with gears - something felt a bit missing without.
Booked test date. Got nervous butterflies and felt exhilarated. Haha. Hope my mind doesn't go all distant then! In the meantime, shall keep driving around twice a week I think, as well as keep up with lectures and tutorials and assignments! (Which are much more sian than intellectually challenging).

And in other other news, trying this Christian meditation thing. Was always curious about Buddhist meditation - have a friend who is one, and her parents do it too - and Christian meditation is different in the sense that you don't just try to empty your mind, but to purposefully allow it to be filled too. Rather interesting so far - the idea being to immerse yourself in the presence of God and to create space to await Him.
