Writing is beautiful because it doesn't require speech. It doesn't require a quavering voice to read it out, or a voice full of laughter and a smile, or a voice full of carefully maintained false bravado. No one who comes across it can pick up anything more than the precise words you choose to express your ideas. The sentences pretend to link you and another thought to thought, transparent of the heavy weighing of the other perceiving what you fear to reveal, transparent of the irrelevant thoughts that could fill the recipient's mind in response to your speech.

Because writing saves those who can never tell the true depths of their insanity or anger or love in real life, it is beautiful.
