questions of a spiritual battle
There's a constant battle between feelings and knowledge. Feeling that the bad guys are winning and that frustration and fear and greed and apathy will overtake in the end, and knowledge that no, God is sovereign in all of this and that he will triumph in this universe. When I hold on to His promises I know that I do not need to fear and despair and worry or be sad - but I still do so continually.
How to submit your feelings to knowledge, capturing every thought and action to this? How to know that in the end it will be alright, even if no one on earth quite sees the way; how to know that Love overcomes all, that God is still sovereign, how to be convicted in our actions of this truth?
How to put our petty fears to rest, how to cut our petulant greed away from us, how to be separated from our sins as far as the east is from the west? We can't even do so by ourselves; we can only ask for the strength and help to be given us so that it might be possible although we know that it is won already and the victories ahead waiting for us to claim them.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
